Dearest Readers and Friends:
I woke up writing the best Christmas letter to you. Of course, all those marvelous ideas and gorgeous sentences evaporated once I opened my eyes, got out of bed, located my computer, and sat down to write. Honestly, at this moment, not a thought or idea remains. I will start from where I am right now—empty-headed and hoping for inspiration.
White Christmas is my favorite Christmas song. Written by Irving Berlin, a Jewish Russian immigrant, for the 1942 movie Holiday Inn, it first aired on December 25, 1941, during the Kraft Music Hall radio show hosted by Bing Crosby. Pearl Harbor was attacked just weeks before, and America had entered World War II. As a Jew, Berlin never celebrated Christmas, yet he left us one of the most popular Christmas songs of all time.
Many of you will unwrap presents in the next few days, but I won’t. The most important gifts come from my husband every day and are not wrapped in pretty paper.
These are his gifts to me and are what I wish for you today and always:
Love
Hugs
Kindness
Laughter
Fun
Thoughtfulness
Someone who listens without judgment
Generosity in words and deeds
Peace
I won’t be posting until after the New Year, so I will take this moment to wish you the happiest of holidays and the best in 2024. We all could use a good year, and I remain hopeful that next year will be better than this one.
Wishing you whatever inside your heart you most wish for yourself.
Love,
May this holiday season be the start of a year filled with love, friendship, hope and peace for you and for us all. Sending love.
Happy holidays to you too and thanks for the reminder of what Christmas is all about!
